What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a specialised hands-on musculo-skeletal therapy that
approaches the body ‘holistically’ (whole-body), using a wide range of manual therapy techniques. An osteopath can treat a variety of conditions including neck pain, lower back pain, head-aches, sports injuries, arm and hand pain.

Osteopaths use conventional diagnostic procedures to assess a wide range of physical conditions. Sessions include taking a thorough history, an
examination, and a treatment. Treatments are specific to each individual.
Treatment modalities include joint and spinal manipulation, soft tissue
massage, cranio-sacral therapy and trigger point treatment. Advice such as
postural correction, ergonomic consideration, exercises and stretches may also be recommend to help manage a condition and improve general well being.

While treating the musculo-skeletal system, osteopathy also addresses the
circulatory, neurological, visceral and endocrine systems. This assists the body to achieve optimal functioning within the boundaries of aging.
Osteopathy is safe and suitable for people of all ages, from newborns, to
pregnant women, the elderly, and people recovering from injuries and surgery. In osteopathic treatment, some patients fully recover after only one
consulatation whilst others may need a period of regular treatment to manage their condition.

What is Cranio-sacral Therapy?

Cranio-sacral Osteopathy (also known as Cranial Osteopathy) is a refined and subtle form of treatment used to enhance the functioning of the circulatory, brain, spinal cord, nervous system and skeletal connective tissues.

Discovered by American Osteopath, Dr William Garner Sutherland in 1898, it
was found that the various bones of the skull permit small ryhtmic motions. By using a finely-tuned sense of touch an Osteopath will gently monitor these motions and encourage the release of stresses and tensions extending from the skull, down to the sacrum, and throughout the whole body.

Cranio-sacral therapy often accompanies other forms of more direct and structural treatments to treat stress, neck and back pain, Miagraines, and TMJ syndrome. It is an effective approach and may be used in a wide range of conditions for people of all ages, from birth to old age.
