Daniel Perkins
Daniel Perkins is a PACFA-registered psychotherapist who specialises in the use of neurofeedback for the treatment of emotional, psychological and cognitive dysregulation.
Daniel holds dual PhDs from the University of Melbourne focused on novel interventions for the treatment of complex and treatment-resistant mental health and substance use disorders. He has also completed graduate training in post-traumatic studies (complex and developmental trauma) through The Trauma Center, led at the time by Dr Bessel van der Kolk. Daniel maintains a small clinical caseload, dedicating the majority of his time to leadership in research and the development of novel mental health therapeutics.
Clinically, Daniel works primarily with neurofeedback, offering both conventional frequency-band and next-generation infra-low frequency neurofeedback treatment. These non-invasive approaches work by modulating central nervous system activity to reduce symptoms of hyperarousal, emotional reactivity, and attentional instability, and can be particularly valuable where conventional therapies have had limited effect.
Daniel works with individuals experiencing challenges related to PTSD, childhood trauma and adversity, anxiety and depression, ADHD, substance use, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety, and psychological/integration difficulties following the use of psychedelic substances.
In addition, he holds an Adjunct Associate Professor position in the Centre for Mental Health at Swinburne University of Technology, and leads the Psychedelic Research and Therapeutics Unit at the University of Melbourne. He previously worked within the Victorian Department of Health, where he led the development of the Victorian Men’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
Daniel brings a unique combination of academic rigour, clinical experience, and a commitment to integrative, personalised care.
